Greenhouse farming offers an innovative and controlled way to grow herbs and vegetables year-round. Our greenhouse stands out in the region for its durable iron framework and glass panels, a robust alternative to the more common polyhouses. While polyhouses are cost-effective, they often get damaged due to high-speed winds and hailstorms. The decision to construct a glass-panel greenhouse was driven by both functionality and durability. Glass provides excellent light transmission, essential for healthy plant growth, and is far more durable than plastic alternatives. The iron frame is strong and holds the glass securely. In a region prone to heavy winds and hail, our glass greenhouse ensures resilience against harsh weather, providing a stable environment for our plants and saplings.

Our greenhouse allows us to fine-tune temperature, humidity, and light levels. This control creates an ideal microclimate that supports consistent growth, even during harsh winters or extreme summer heat.
Potted plants in the greenhouse are watered carefully to prevent wastage. The reduced evaporation in the closed structure also helps in conserving water.

Companion planting is a cornerstone of our greenhouse farming. By strategically pairing plants, we naturally deter pests and enhance pollination. For example, basil is planted alongside tomatoes, not only to repel harmful insects but also to improve the flavor of the fruit. Garlic grows with strawberries. We’ve also introduced beneficial insects to the greenhouse ecosystem. Ladybirds, known for their voracious appetite for aphids, help keep pest populations in check, ensuring our plants remain healthy. Flowers help sustain the beneficial insects’ population.

The greenhouse serves as a nursery for growing saplings from seeds, ensuring a steady supply of healthy plants for our orchard and garden. By growing our saplings in a controlled environment, we are able to increase the germination rate of our seeds, and get a head-start in spring season by having saplings ready when the outside weather is conducive.
Inside our greenhouse, we also cultivate a variety of herbs and vegetables in pots and planters, including:
- Vegetables like Tomatoes, Chilies, Bell Peppers, Garlic, Onions, Brinjals, and many more.
- Herbs: Basil, Parsley, Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano, Mint, Coriander, Lemongrass, and various other local herbs.
- Green Leafy Vegetables: Lettuce, Spinach, Mustard etc
Presently, we are also in the process of adding a poly-house, at a location that appears to be safe from high speed winds.
Our existing greenhouse is more than just a farming space—it’s a hub for innovation and sustainability. By combining traditional practices like companion planting with modern techniques like integrated pest management, we’re redefining what it means to grow food responsibly. Whether it’s the flavorful cherry tomatoes, spicy chilies, or fragrant basil, the produce from our greenhouse embodies our commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly farming. Our family also enjoy the warmth of the greenhouse in winters by using it as a conservatory where we can spend time and even enjoy occasional meals.
